Application and Contact Information

Each year, the Residency Training Program accepts applications for six PGY-1 positions. All applications for the Residency Training Program must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applications are accepted starting in September and are desired by November 1. Interviews are by invitation only and are required. They will be scheduled at the mutual convenience of the applicant and the Department of Psychiatry between November 1st and January 31st. When interviewed, please plan on spending a full day at our program.

Although we have no absolute minimum requirements for USMLE scores, the average applicant invited to interview scored approximately 205 on their Step 1. We strongly prefer that applicants pass their USMLE Step 1 & 2 within two attempts. We are generally looking for applicants who have graduated from medical school within the past ten years, and who have approximately two years of U.S. clinical experience (either a third and fourth year of American Medical School or approximately two years of U.S. clinical experience for International Medical Graduates). All applicants for a residency position must be (pending) graduates of an LCME-accredited medical school, an AOA-accredited medical school or a medical school listed in the WHO Directory of Medical Schools. The Program Director, or his/her designee, will evaluate and select the candidates he/she believes to be most qualified for the positions available within the training program and select which candidates to interview. Credentials considered in this selection process will include:

  1. Global performance in medical school, including:
    • Dean's letter
    • Class rank
    • Transcript
    • Continuity of medical education
  2. Personal Statement/Motivation for Psychiatry
  3. USMLE or COMLEX examination scores
  4. Letters of Recommendation
  5. ECFMG Certification, if applicable. For International Medical Graduates, we will accept only a J-1 visa sponsored by the ECFMG.
