Flexible Benefits

Pre-tax Health, Vision and Dental Premiums

Premiums are deducted from paychecks before taxes are calculated, therefore you save Federal, State and Social Security taxes. For a list of the current premiums, please contact the Benefits Department at 703-558-1300.

Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

This plan allows you to set aside from $130 to $5,000  annually in pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible health care expenses. The minimum contribution is $5 a pay period. Coverage begins on the first of the month following the month you were hired. The only exception is if you were hired on the first of the month, in which case, benefits begin on the date of hire.

Examples of eligible expenses include: some over-the counter medicines, acupuncture, deductibles, co-pays, laser eye surgery.

Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

This plan allows you to set aside from $130 to $5,000 annually in pre-tax dollars ($2,500 if married filing separately) to pay for eligible dependent care expenses. The plan allows you to reimburse yourself for the cost of caring for your children under the age of 13 and other dependents (such as elderly parents or a disabled spouse) while you are at work. Coverage begins on the first of the month following the month you were hired. The only exception is if you were hired in the first of the month, in which case, benefits begin on the date of hire.

Examples of eligible expenses include: nursery schools, day camps, licensed day care centers, adult care centers (for those that are physically or mentally unable to care for themselves).
