Adult Psychiatric Outpatient
Services
The adult clinic offers psychiatric evaluation and therapy
for patients 18 and older. Individual, group, family and pharmacotherapy are
available. Short and long-term outpatient treatment is available, depending on
patient needs.

Substance Abuse
Services The clinic provides evaluation and outpatient treatment for
patients with alcohol or drug abuse problems. Individual, group and family
therapies are offered. Other services include outpatient detoxification,
medication and coordinated intervention approaches. Specific groups are held for
some patient categories, e.g. college students or spouses of
alcoholics.

Mood and Anxiety Disorders
Program Mood and anxiety disorders are very
common problems that affect people’s quality of life, personal relationships,
productivity and general health. The Mood and Anxiety Disorders Clinic at the
outpatient program at Georgetown University Hospital provides diagnostic evaluations,
treatment recommendations and second opinions for adults between the ages of 18
and 65. Patients with depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder,
obsessive compulsive disorder or other mood and anxiety disorders can benefit
greatly from professional diagnostic evaluations and multidisciplinary
treatments which are compassionate and evidence-based.
Behavioral Medicine Program
This program provides the
psychiatric and psychological component of a multidisciplinary approach to pain
management for patients suffering headache, back, abdomen, and other types of
chronic pain. Services include assessment, individual cognitive-behavioral
therapy for pain management and EMG-assisted relaxation training.
Child/Adolescent Psychiatry
This service provides outpatient evaluation and treatment
for children, adolescents, and their parents. Individual, group, family and
pharmacotherapy are available. Projective, cognitive and educational assessments are
also offered. Treatment is provided for problems ranging from minor adjustment
disorders to severe emotional disturbances.

Geriatric Psychiatry
Service This program provides psychiatric service to patients aged
65 and older with symptoms including depression, dementia and other psychiatric
disorders. The service provides diagnostic evaluations, consultations and
ongoing treatment. Medicare and D.C. Medicaid patients are accepted.

Medical Illness Program
This program specializes in the psychiatric evaluation and treatment of
patients with medical and psychiatric illnesses and patients suffering from
emotional disorders secondary to serious physical illnesses.

Psychopharmacology Clinic The department's Psychopharmacology Consult Clinic
offers thorough psychiatric diagnostic
evaluations with accompanying treatment recommendations, as well as
second opinion consults. Referrals are provided for appropriate follow-up care, including
medication management and/or therapy.

Mental Health Care Inpatient
Unit This unit provides short-term
psychiatric hospitalization. The multidisciplinary approach includes
pharmacotherapy; individual, group and family psychotherapy; psychological and
neuropsychological assessment; and electroconvulsive therapy. The unit
specializes in treatment of patients with co-morbid medical and psychiatric
diagnoses.

Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization
Program
This center, located at Georgetown University Hospital,
provides intensive outpatient psychiatric care for patients requiring a
structured day program. Services include diagnostic evaluations, crisis
intervention, medication management and group therapy. The center operates
Monday through Friday.
