Eileen Ferrell, RN, MS, BSN

We are very pleased to announce that Eileen Ferrell, MS, RN, BSN will serve as interim CNO. With more than 23 years of committed and impressive service to MGUH, Eileen has been an integral leader in the Nursing Division. As a visible leader, she is not only passionate about the field of nursing, but has been an enthusiastic and devoted champion of nursing at MGUH. Eileen has been responsible for recruiting some of the best and brightest nurses in the nation to MGUH, and in turn, has formed an extremely strong, collaborative relationship with our nursing staff, many of whom she recruited and continues to provide support in their personal and professional growth. As interim CNO, she will work closely and collaboratively with our skilled and expert senior nurse leadership team to ensure that our Nursing operations run smoothly and successfully.

Eileen Brennan Ferrell RN, MS, BSN, received her BSN from Georgetown University School of Nursing in 1975 as well as her Masters in Health Services Administration in 1983. Ms. Ferrell started her nursing career as a staff nurse at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital followed by several years in the public health area of nursing practice.

She was awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Scholarship to pursue a Masters at Georgetown University and then returned to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital on a part-time basis while raising two young children. Currently, Ms. Ferrell is the Director of Nurse Recruitment and Retention at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She is actively involved in the issues surrounding the shortage of nurses nationwide. Ms. Ferrell is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, AONE, and various community organizations.

Kate Hanson, RN, MBA
Director, Business Services

Kate Hanson’s background is in Acute Dialysis and nursing administration, and her current area of expertise is in all aspects of business administration. Kate is the Director for Business Services at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.  In this position, she assists nursing leaders in budget development and analysis and monitors productivity.  Additional responsibilities include administration of the nursing services office, patient placement activities, patient transport, and liaison administration of the nursing functions in numerous non-nursing clinical departments.  She received her AAS in Nursing from Marymount University, her BA from Georgetown University, and her MBA from Marymount University.
