Roberta Burroughs is giving her kidney on behalf of her sister, Regina Harvey. Roberta, a project manager who lives in Florida, never questioned that she would give her sister a kidney when the time came. Although she is not a match for her sister, the opportunity to participate in the exchange so Regina could get a better match, is one she wouldn’t walk away from. She says, “That’s what older sisters are for.”
Even though her sister has had lupus for years, she marvels at her energy. “You wouldn’t know that she had either lupus or kidney failure,” she says. She adds that this experience has brought her and Regina even closer than before. She is excited that something she is doing to help one person can help so many others.
