Valerie Daniels, 53 – Recipient
Forestville, Maryland
Washington Hospital Center
Received from Aleina (Lena) Surratt
Valerie Daniels has been involved in missionary work for years, traveling the globe in response to those in need of services. However, in October 2008, she was diagnosed with renal failure and gradually her health deteriorated. A year later, she was put on dialysis. It was not easy, but she continued her missionary work. In March of this year, she founded Hope International, a non-profit organization to provide aid and resources to third world countries. Several months later, she and a group of area churches collected supplies and shipped the items to Haiti in a school bus fully loaded with water, medical supplies, generators, and even a full-sized piano. “Not too long ago, someone told me that it would be a miracle to get a kidney because I’m highly sensitized,” she said. “Now, I have a kidney thanks to my donor and to my husband, Wendell Daniels, who gave his kidney through the exchange, so that I could have a transplant.”
