Dedicated Breast Care—Physicians, Nurses and Researchers

At the Ourisman Center, women have access to skilled radiologists interpreting their examination.

We have the latest screening and diagnostic technology, and physicians with nationally recognized expertise in breast health. Through our affiliation with the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, we participate in the most comprehensive array of breast cancer research studies available in the world. Advanced diagnostic procedures include:

  • Cyst aspiration
  • Digital mammography
  • Stereotactic and ultrasound-guided core breast biopsies (both are nonsurgical methods for removing breast tissue for examination, and are often used for hard-to-detect lesions)
  • Ductal lavage, a procedure that samples fluid from the nipple, and galactography to evaluate nipple discharge
  • High-resolution ultrasound to more accurately identify consistency of cysts, and sizes and areas of tumors

With one appointment, women have access to the following:

  • Breast physical examination
  • Breast imaging (mammography, ultrasound)
  • Breast health education and Breast Health Resource Center
  • The most advanced technology, including the region’s first digital mammography unit and only high-resolution breast ultrasound unit
  • Dedicated, nationally recognized experts in breast imaging, oncologists and surgeons who specialize in breast care
  • A supportive staff, including case managers who facilitate your care throughout your treatment process
  • The full services of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the area’s only NCI-designated center including support groups, counseling and cancer risk assessment
