Apnea/Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic
MedStar Georgetown is the only hospital in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area where neonatologists offer follow-up care. Our neonatologists offer continuing care for high-risk infants in our follow-up clinic. This service provides continuing post-discharge consultation and management of NICU graduates and young infants with complex medical needs, such as:
- Apnea
- Acute life-threatening events
- Bronchopulmonary dysplasia/chronic lung disease
- Feeding difficulties
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
In addition, our staff is available to interpret multichannel sleep and event recording studies. All inpatient and outpatient evaluations are coordinated 24 hours a day.
Transitional Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Services
This clinic offers services that allow for early neurodevelopmental monitoring of infants led by a developmental pediatrician and a group of pediatric professionals. Our graduates begin this monitoring soon after their discharge from the nursery. Assessment consists of an age-appropriate neurodevelopmental evaluation. Our developmental pediatrician then makes recommendations to the family and their pediatrician.
Developmental Evaluation Clinic (DEC)
Infants at risk for developmental problems can visit our DEC. This clinic identifies potential developmental delays or deficits for the purposes of early intervention. Our evaluation team includes:
- Developmental pediatricians
- Psychologists
- Physical therapists
- Occupational therapists
