Pediatric Hematology/Oncology,
Blood and Marrow Transplantation
A multidisciplinary team of board-certified, fellowship-trained specialists provide state-of-the-art clinical care and education in a family-centered environment. Specialists available include pediatric oncologists, pediatric oncology nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, patient advocates, nutritionists, clinical research associates, chaplains and art therapists.
With a particular interest in pediatric hematologic cancers, the division is affiliated with the NCI-designated Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and certified by the Children’s Oncology Group. Clinical trials are available for eligible patients.
Services include diagnosis, treatment and management of childhood hematologic and oncologic disorders. Stem cell and bone marrow transplantation for malignant and nonmalignant disorders, leukemia and lymphoma, solid tumors and brain tumors.

Sickle Cell Program
Hematology services include a Friday clinic dedicated to the care of children and young adults who have sickle cell disease and other hemoglobin disorders. The program is part of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and treats a number of blood disorders, including:
- Sickle cell disease
- Coagulation disorder
- Thrombosis
- Histiocytosis
- Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH)
- Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH)

Palliative Care Program
Palliative care services are provided from the time of onset through active treatment until cure or end of life with a wide array of integrative medicine and support services.

Cancer Survivorship Program
Pediatric cancer survivors are followed well into adulthood with the expertise of an internal medicine specialist. The program provides consultation and follow up for referrals from the community.
