Additional Information
As a specialist in Orthopaedic spine surgery, Dr. Lauerman is committed to providing the latest techniques available to improve your mobility and return you to the active lifestyle that you desire. More importantly, he believes strongly in the benefits of nonoperative care for most spine conditions, and avoiding or delaying surgery when appropriate. Dr. Lauerman is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Fellowship trained in spine surgery, receiving his training at Georgetown University and the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Scoliosis Center.
Dr. Lauerman's practice exclusively deals with spinal disorders including scoliosis, spondylolisthesis and arthritic conditions, or disc problems in the low back such as spinal stenosis. He also treats less common conditions such as infections or tumors of the spine. Dr. Lauerman treats adults and children with spinal disorders. He is committed in his practice to limiting surgery to individuals who have a good chance of achieving a good result and who have not improved with some of the many nonoperative options available including rehab and therapy, medication management and pain injections. When surgery is necessary, he combines newer, less invasive approaches with more traditional decompressive and reconstructive techniques, always individualized to address the patient’s unique problem and goals.
Here at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Dr. Lauerman is proud, for almost 20 years, to be part of the best Spine team in the area. This includes Orthopaedic Surgeons and Neurosurgeons, Anesthesia and Critical Care specialists, Pain Management and Rehabilitation Medicine doctors, as well as therapists and nurses involved in the care of thousands of spine patients each year. He looks forward to the opportunity to help you with your spine problem.
