Additional Information
The shoulder service of the department of Orthopaedic Surgery treats a wide variety of disorders ranging from athletic injuries to degenerative and arthritic conditions. Our physicians specialize in the treatment of rotator cuff disease, shoulder dislocations, shoulder arthritis, fractures about the shoulder and elbow, as well as sports related shoulder injuries. The primary goal in the treatment of any should disorder is to alleviate pain and restore function as quickly as possible.
Dr. Brent Wiesel is the chief of the shoulder service. Dr. Wiesel completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania and an additional year of training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia.
In addition to “open” surgical procedures, Dr. Wiesel specializes in minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery. He has expertise in emerging techniques for the treatment of shoulder disorders including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Each patient receives a physician-directed rehabilitation program that is designed to maximize outcome based on his or her goals.
In addition to excellence in clinical care, the shoulder service is also actively involved in research aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of disorders about the shoulder and elbow.
