MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Division of General Internal Medicine offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care—from routine services like annual physicals and immunizations to specialized services like pediatric developmental evaluations, preventive care, and treatment of chronic medical conditions. General Internal Medicine also offers preoperative consults and integrated care through our Electronic Medical Records system (please see below). With nearly 30 physicians and four nurse practitioners, our highly experienced medical team uses evidence-based and patient-focused approaches to provide quality health care to a diverse community.
We Educate Future Healthcare Professionals
As leaders in the practice of internal medicine, our experts educate medical students, residents and fellows. Several providers serve in key faculty and leadership positions at Georgetown University. Additionally, as a Teaching Faculty clinic, we are highly dedicated to continuity in our educational practices, with each resident and student being assigned to a specific doctor.
Electronic Medical Records
We use electronic medical records—a powerful tool that helps us provide each patient with consistent, timely care. By maintaining all of a patient’s records in one place—labs, diagnostic imaging, medicines and evaluations—our physicians and healthcare practitioners have more information and easier access to it, leading to thorough and efficient patient management.
Our Patients Get Their Questions Answered
Our patients have access to a Nurse Advice Line—a telephone service staffed by experienced Registered Nurses that is dedicated to assisting patients with the necessary information to manage their health care at home or to providing urgent care appointments and services as needed. Our RNs are able to assist patients in both English and Spanish.
