Our Mission
The mission of the Community Pediatrics Program is to improve access for underserved children to a comprehensive medical home and other services necessary to achieve positive health outcomes. This mission is based on the belief that every child, regardless of his/her financial means, deserves high-quality, comprehensive, continuous health care, delivered in a respectful, caring and family centered environment—a “medical home.”
Our program seeks to remove the barriers to health care for children of the District of Columbia living in poverty by delivering primary medical care directly in their neighborhoods at no direct cost to their parents or caregivers. While providing primary medical care is our principle focus, our further mission is to expand our programming to provide assistance in helping families access other resources such as such as advocacy, mental health, social services, and medical education that are necessary for our patients to lead secure and healthy childhoods.
The Community Pediatrics Program is also reflective of Georgetown University’s commitment to educate ‘women and men to be responsible and active participants in civic life, and to live generously in service to others.’
Our History
Since 1992, the Georgetown University Children’s Medical Center Community Pediatrics Program has provided comprehensive pediatric services to children and adolescents in the greater Washington Metropolitan Area. We have been able to provide more than 29,000 patient visits to children with poor access to health care with help from generous foundations, corporations and individuals, and the support of Georgetown University and Georgetown University Hospital/MedStar Health.
Who Are We
The Community Pediatrics Program is part of the Department of Pediatrics at Georgetown University Hospital, a MedStar Health Partner. We are a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 program. Our health professionals and administrative staff are dedicated to improving access to comprehensive care to children and adolescent in their communities.
Who We Serve
The Community Pediatrics Program provides services to child, adolescents and their families living in the D.C. Metropolitan Area who have poor access to comprehensive care. The program focuses its resources in poor communities that have limited access to services. Some of the current sites include: public high schools, public housing communities, and a homeless shelter. The program is hoping to expand as funding becomes available.
Our Strengths-Our Partners
Our strengths lie in the partnerships that we have developed over the last 12 years. With a combination of strong community organizations and very generous and committed philanthropic partnerships, we have grown and strengthened the program. We hope to add more services and programs in different and innovative ways in the community. We hope you will consider joining us to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children in the DC metropolitan area.
