Treating Spasticity: A Free Web Lecture

More than half a million Americans suffer from spasticity, a condition that is marked by tight, stiff muscles that make arm and leg movements painful, difficult or uncontrollable. Spasticity can make doing even the smallest chores exhausting or impossible.

For those with severe spasticity caused by cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord injury or brain injury, Georgetown University Hospital offers an innovative treatment, the Baclofen pump. In comparison to many traditional treatments, the pump causes fewer side effects, offers more accurate medication dosages and provides many people relief from spasticity.

Join Dr. Carlo Tornatore, neurologist, and Dr. Christopher Kalhorn, neurosurgeon, at a free Web lecture to learn more about the Baclofen pump and other treatments for spasticity.

Movement Disorders Lecture Series

For those suffering from Parkinson’s, dystonia, essential tremor or other movement disorders, every day can be a challenge: uncontrollable shaking, difficulty walking and aching muscles. But there’s hope. One of the many treatment options that we offer is deep brain stimulation or DBS — innovative surgery that uses a pacemaker-like device to stimulate the brain, reduce symptoms and improve the quality of life.

Kidney Transplant Lecture Series

You no longer have to live your life on dialysis. Georgetown University Hospital offers treatments that may eliminate your need for dialysis. Thanks to new technology and innovative approaches, our transplant specialists can increase your chances of being compatible with a wider range of kidney donors—helping you improve your quality of life.

Pancreatic Cancer Lecture Series

Difficult to diagnose and equally difficult to treat, pancreatic cancer is often aggressive, making it the fifth leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. and the cancer with the highest fatality rate. Georgetown University Hospital’s Pancreatic Disease Program is pioneering new techniques to diagnose and treat benign and malignant diseases of the pancreas and biliary system, at any stage, with greater accuracy and less discomfort to patients.
